2009 was a challenging and exciting year.  With all the up-hill battles a lot of wonderful opportunities were still created.

Starting January 1, 2010 I will begin my 365 photoblog project at www.digitalmediaphotographer.com. The feed from my project as well as my people, food and interior portfolio sites will be syndicated through this site.  So, subscribing to this blog will keep you up to date on all fronts.

To continue the theme of my personal blog as the place for stuff.  A please to share images and ideas I don’t know what else to do with.  I’ve now decided to start a 365 project starting Jan 1, 2010 – Dec 31, 2010.

I can see the value in such a personal project. It forces the photographer to create and photograph everyday.  I will focus on people, food and interior photographs. If I have a professional shoot I wish to share, I will reserve the right to include one of the images in the project to satisfy the need for a daily photograph

One of my main goals is to find more people to photograph.  Unique looks and create new styles for my portfolio.

Hopefully this will encourage some podcasts about my project and work.

It should be fun.

One of my favorite clients is Fox Sports – Detroit.  I’ve been working with the team for almost a decade now.  Tim Bryant, Director of Media Relations, has become more of a friend than a client over the years.

Last Thursday, fox celebrated their long awaited new studio.  It is called the Call SAM studio – now that attorney Sam Bernstein is the new sponsor of the set.

It was fun to watch the excitement of the Bernstein family as they toured the studio and enjoyed the event.  I had good conversations, between photos, with a number of the family members including the always enthusiastic Richard Bernstein and Sam Bernstein.

Many of the Fox talent were there.

My little girl Ava loves soccer.  She is really good too.  Ava also loves being a princess.  I had my equipment out and thought it would be fun to take some photographs.  We took about 100 shots – here are three that worked out well.

This is a series of images I took for a local hospital. The hospital marketing department selected about thirty images, I’m displaying eleven here. I think I had a few winners in the batch. Listen to the podcast to hear my thoughts and the stories behind the images.

This blog has had many incarnations.  It is my first blog. I finally transferred it from wordpress to my own domain.  So, what to do?

It’s amazing how many people actually read this blog and listen to my photographer podcasts.  Especially since it became the red-headed step child of http://www.prosperousartists.com and http://www.newmediaphotographer.com.

Now that I’ve developed those blogs it’s time to working on my sharing my photography.  Enough business. I talk business all day long.  It’s time to think about my first love the craft of creating an image with light.

I will continue my podcasts again. How often. I’m not sure, but more frequent the every three to six months.  I’ll post my new images and share my photographic experiences.  Promise.

I was asked by a student to answer a few questions for his newspaper class.  It is always fun to review. I thought I would share my answers.

“Here are the questions”

1) What does it take to be a photojournalist? The ability to tell stories with images.  You need the talents of a good photographer, ability to think fast and the understanding of good reporting.  Such as how to ask good questions.

2) When did you realize that you wanted to have a career in photojournalism?  I’ve been a photographer at heart since I was 3.  Photojournalism was a natural fit because I lived in a media family. I started working at my first newspaper at the age of 19.

3) What’s the difference between being a photographer and being a photojournalist? Generally a photographer creates quality images in a controlled environment.  A photojournalist creates great images from chaos.

4) What type of events do you like to take pictures of?  Historical events.  Usually political.

5) Is the job of being a photojournalist difficult? It’s a lifestyle.  If you enjoy the lifestyle it’s not hard, but every career has its challenges.

6) What are the pro and cons of being a photojournalist?  The pros are the opportunity meet great people, witness incredible events and visit interesting places.  Cons: Often the pay is not great compared to other forms of photography.

7) How do you tell a story through pictures?  I believe creating a variety of images is important.  Displaying the same type of image over and over is not very effective.  Create overall photographs to establish the scene, medium shots to tell the story and close up images to add drama.  Always be prepared. The photojournalist strives for the decisive moment. But, remember, ultimately photography is about light.

I’ve been playing with post-processing.  High contrast, low saturation or Lucisart style photography has been all rage lately.  I’ve started working on some styles over the last six months.  I finally talked with few photo friends who use the styles successfully in their work.

I honestly didn’t realize there was a plug-in called Lucisart. But, once I was able to look it up, I was able to complete the puzzle.  Lucis is about $300-$600 depending on the version for the plug-in. I think I’m able to get what I need using the photoshop Raw platform.

Below are a couple examples.  I also created a page for this work on my web site.
